Maybe the more things go wrong, the more I’m starting to appreciate the good. Yes, to be perfectly honest, it is taking EVERY OUNCE in my body not to break down in tears over my worries with my body/auto-immune diagnosis, but I’m proud of continuing to get out of bed everyday. I’m so sick at this point that my gut/body is so inflamed that I sometimes look like I’m 6 months pregnant but instead of letting vanity take over, I am trying to just be my healthiest self and pray that this is temporary. Work is helping; it’s a distraction and forces me to be around people. Also, being around my brother and sister-in-law is amazing. They’re the best. I’m not sure what has triggered my body to start rebelling but it seems that I’m always hungry/uncomfortable/unable to retain nutrients. Scary stuff. BUT, since it’s Marvelous in my Monday, let me share some of the lovely things from my weekend:
FRIDAY: The morning was spent eating runny eggs with my brother and discussing Vine videos, then the rest of the day was spent at Whole Foods (for work), followed by grocery shopping and creating a delicious new smoothie, see below.
Basil Mango Magic
1 small handful fresh basil leaves
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
1 cup water
a few ice cubes
1/2 inch piece ginger root
1 scoop Vanilla protein
Directions: Add all ingredients, except protein to blender and combine until smooth. Once combined, add scoop of vanilla protein (this prevents the smoothie from becoming too frothy).
SATURDAY: 7:30-4 was work, so by the time I got home I was pooped. Standing on concrete floors for 8 hours is rough! As my reward, I picked up 18 pieces of sushi for $6 and ate it in the park. It was the perfect ending to a busy day.
SUNDAY: I was back at work at 7:30, but I decided to spend my lunch hour in the sun with my feet out-stretched. It was the perfect break. After work, I went for a 45 minute walk, then came home to make a feast and catch-up with my brother and sister-in-law who had just got back from a weekend on one of the Gulf Islands (#roughlife).
What’s keeping you optimistic this Monday? What city have you fallen in love with?
